Hobos + Vagabonds + Vampire Weekend!!

Dear Friends,

Our anniversary party last week was awesome!! We gave away a ton of swag, sold stacks of amazing CDs and LPs, and enjoyed some fantastic musical performances. So many people asked if we were going to be throwing in-store parties more often that we just might... stay tuned. Now as for our out-of-store parties...

Tonight at The Vagabond, Sweat is super happy to present the official CD release party for the highly-anticipated third album from JAMIE LIDELL!! "JIM" comes out next Tuesday but if you come early (10 to midnight) you can hear the new album, score goodies courtesy of Warp Records and enjoy $1 Stella's and PBR... Then in the Garden, we present a special live performance by Animals of the Arctic side-project THIS HEART ELECTRIC!! Fans of Depeche Mode, Talking Heads, Peter Murphy the like will definitely dig this.

Next Friday, THE POSTMARKS will be performing live, for free, to celebrate the UK release of their debut album!! These locals are going places so come see them Friday, May 2nd at The Vagabond.

Speaking of... if you're out early tonight, come by the store for the opening date of the HOBO FILM FESTIVAL!! This unique touring collection of early American train-hopping films will begin screening at Sweat at 8pm. For more information visit myspace.com/hobofilmfest

Last but not least... New show announcement!! VAMPIRE WEEKEND will be performing Monday, June 9th at the Fillmore Miami Beach and Sweat is an official ticket outlet!! They're $20 a pop plus a measly $1 service charge. We've got 50 seats and THE LAST 50 PIT TICKETS AVAILABLE - come and get 'em...

Cheers,
Lolo, Jsin + the Sweat crew

P.S. Congrats to a new local independent business opening this weekend - GARAGE WORKOUT is a new personal training studio opened by our friend and local DJ Dan "Doormouse" Martin!! We can personally verify that he knows what's up and will whip you into shape... The reception is 4-9pm with drinks, snacks and DJs Contra and Induce. 288 NE 61st St. Miami.

WE ARE 3 + RSD!!

Dear Friends,

We missed you!! Our email server was down last week but it's all fixed now and we're back in action. Just in time for...

SWEAT'S 3-YEAR ANNIVERSARY PLUS THE FIRST EVER INTERNATIONAL RECORD STORE DAY!! Holy crap - Sweat Records has been selling music, throwing parties, and keeping you in tune with what's going on Miami for three whole years and we can't wait to celebrate with all of you!! Tons of info to share about it so here we go...

For the early birds, come out for a reception in the store starting at 7pm featuring:
-a special rare live performance by NIL LARA (myspace.com/nillara) and perhaps a surprise guest...
-DJ sets by OTTO VON SCHIRACH, MIKE DEUCE, INDUCE, and DJ HOTTPANTS!!
-wine graciously sponsored by SACRE BLEU WINE (myspace.com/sacrebleuwine)
-a big-ass BIRTHDAY CAKE to share and we'll have our Earthcakes Vegan Cupcakes on sale!!
-lots of FREE CDs, vinyl and swag for Record Store Day!!

What is Record Store Day you may ask?

RECORD STORE DAY was created so that record stores worldwide could band together for "the purpose of celebrating the culture and unique place that they occupy both in their local communities and nationally" and we couldn't agree more. Peep www.recordstoreday.com for tons of info, excellent artist quotes and to see what the hundreds of other stores are doing to celebrate!!

Our celebration continues next door at Churchill's at 10pm with live performances by some of Miami's best acts!! In the main room witness:
-JESSE JACKSON
-ARTOFFICIAL
-MODERNAGE
-OUTEREACH
-ASTARI NIGHT
-with your musical emcee JOSE EL REY!!

On the back patio stage, prepare for some noisy fun with performances by DINO FELIPE, RAMBURGLAR, and THE CREATURE TWEAKER COUNCIL!!

Lastly (for all the night owls), save your wristband from our party and head over to PS14 for FREE entry to the official after-party going 'til 5am featuring live sets by AWESOME NEW REPUBLIC, ¡MAYDAY! and more with DJs DANNY ASHE, COUNTESS CUCHA and KEMAPLASTIK!! PS14 is located at 28 NE 14th St. (next to The Vagabond).

Thanks to EVERYONE for all the love and support and three awesome years!! We are so happy in our new location and here's to many more...

Cheers,
Lolo, Jsin + the Sweat crew

P.S. We'll be pre-partying at THE VAGABOND tonight!! If you're going to the VHS or BETA/Tigercity show come by after with your ticket stub for free entry and a complimentary drink!!

P.P.S. We've got another awesome in-store event on Sunday for 4/20... Remember "Super Size Me", the movie where a guy eats nothing but McDonald's for 30 days? Well comedian Doug Benson has made "SUPER HIGH ME" and - you guessed it - stays stoned for 30 days straight. He also was completely sober for 30 days before that to compare the differences and to research the issues on medical marijuana. Screening starts at 8ish, we'll have some special "theme" merchandise on sale (ie Dr. Dre's "The Chronic") and munchies will be available from our organic coffee counter to sate any unexplainable hungers... No RSVP, arrive early to get a seat!! 5505 NE 2nd Ave. www.superhighmemovie.com/events/super-high-me-sweat-records-miami-420/

SCIENCE CLUB TONIGHT + LOCAL AUTHOR SHOWCASE THURSDAY!!

Dear Friends,

WMC was great but like a lot of you - we're glad it's over!! The Kimya Dawson and Handsome Furs shows Sweat co-presented were both fantastic - last year during WMC we brought down EL-P and The Presets so we're glad to keep bringing quality music down during the madness...

Lots of great in-stores and whatnot coming up, here we go...

Tonight is the inaugural meeting of the SWEAT SCIENCE CLUB!! Colin Ford and Jared McKay of Coral Morphologic - responsible for the amazing saltwater coral reef tank in the store - will talk about aquaculture, the tank and other related topics. Then, Thursday night is the second Local Author Showcase!! Miami's own Crissa-Jean Chapell's award-winning young adult book "Total Constant Order" is about a South Florida teen dealing with obsessive compulsive disorder.

Both events start at 8pm and we'll be providing refreshments. Flavorpill featured both of this week's in-stores up so click the links to read more:

Sweat Science Club: Coral Morphologic
Local Author Showcase: Crissa-Jean Chapell

This Friday night begins our new weekly party at Miami's gorgeous new venue THE VAGABOND!! If you haven't been yet, just wait 'til you see it. We're so happy to be there and will be bringing you tons of CD release parties, live performances, and an all-around fantastic dance party. No inflated drink prices, no door bs, no dress codes - just come as you are.

Last but not least, the "Music + Sound" issue of the fantastic MAP Magazine is out now and available for free at Sweat!! The entire issue can be downloaded as a pdf or read online at www.themapmag.com - be sure to check out the awesome article about Sweat Records on page 40!! They'll be celebrating the release this Saturday night at Poplife at The White Room with a live performance by Rachel Goodrich starting at 11pm.

Cheers,
Lolo, Jsin + the Sweat crew

P.S. Tonight is the last ever NIGHT OF WEIRDS at next door at Churchill's!! Come early for Science Club and then weird out!!
