Just a heads-up that tonight's Music Movie Monday is canceled...

...that Sweat's movie night will now be on selected WEDNESDAYS.

We think hump day is a better day for a movie, plus you'll have the added bonus of being able to go to Can You Rock A Little Softer? next door at Churchill's afterward!

'80s PROM VI on Thanksgiving Eve!!

Dear friends,

Lots of good stuff going on in Sweat Records - an extremely generous donor has given us a new projector (yay! thankyouthankyou!) and we're gearing up to get not one but TWO new fish tanks!! The first one is a cute 8-gallon countertop one and then after Art Basel we'll be replacing our Red Sea Max!! Thanks to everyone who chipped in toward this and like last time, the wonderful folks at coralmorphologic.com will be setting them up and filling them with beautiful, sustainably obtained sea creatures.

We've also got an amazing new shipment of BOOKS in at the shop including... Juxtapoz Magazine's new illustration and tattoo compendiums, the "Veganomicon", the new Mark Ryden and Marion Peck collaboration, restock of Banksy's "Wall and Piece", "World War Z" (which is the Sweat Books current selection), a volume of hilariously bad tattoo pictures, Shepard Fairey/Obey's "E Pluribus Venom", McSweeney's #20, books about punk rock, cupcakes, Japanese lolita girls, herb, beatniks, the Pixies and so much more!! On to the events!! Tonight at FRIDAYS AT THE VAGABOND, we'll be turning you on to the psych-folk sounds of West Palm Beach's TOTEM POLE!! Check them out at myspace.com/totempolle (that's two L's) and come out to see them at midnight in the Garden. $1 beers before midnight as always!!

Tomorrow night, BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE are playing at Club Cinema in Pompano!! This Canadian collective are incredible live and we highly recommend checking them out!! General admission tickets are only 22 bucks so get your carpool together and do it!!

And it's almost here!! Next Wednesday, November 26th is Lolo + Sweat's ANNUAL '80s PROM!! We've got OUTEREACH doing '80s covers in the Grand Ballroom, followed by RAY MILIAN + CARLOS LLANOS spinning you favorite new wave and dance hits!! In the Bar Room, the unstoppable power-duo of DJ HOTTPANTS + LAHORA spin nostalgic '80s pop, booty bass and other guilty pleasures. In the Garden, VJ CHRIS VIDEO has a custom-made line-up of classic '80s music videos, movie clips, video games, retro commercials, and beyond. Besides all that, there will be the (in)famous prom photo booth with pictures by Jipsy of nefariousgirl.com, $5 prom punch all night, chaperones, slow dances, elegant decorations and so much more. This year's Prom at The Vagabond so dig up your cheesiest '80s outfit and don't miss this party!!

CHRISTMAS (ON MARS) IN NOVEMBER!!

Casa de Ha-Ha on Tuesday was great! Next one is Tuesday, December 9th. Wednesday's Origami Night was nifty! Next one will be in January... and last night's in-store was RAD. Thanks to The Jacuzzi Boys for setting it up and Cheap Time and Electric Bunnies for playing as well.

Tonight at FRIDAYS AT THE VAGABOND, we're happy to bring you two awesome bands from out-of-town - RAFTER (San Diego) and CARS CAN BE BLUE (Athens, GA)!! 1) Next Wednesday, November 19th, Sweat will be presenting the Official Miami Premiere of the extremely highly-anticipated new movie by THE FLAMING LIPS - CHRISTMAS ON MARS!!!!!!!!! Seating at 8pm, film at 8.30, and one lucky attendee will win a copy of the CD and DVD so be there!!

2) The following Wednesday - November 26th - is the one, the only, Lolo + Sweat's ANNUAL '80s PROM!! This year is the *SIXTH ONE* and it promises to be better than ever. It's going to be at The Vagabond and we're packing the place with the best retro DJs, '80s visuals, prom photo booth, balloons, chaperones and so much more. Mark your calendars because there's no school or work the next day for Thanksgiving and it's going to be the theme party of the year!!

*TONIGHT*
Our monthly comedy showcase CASA DE HA-HA is tonight at Sweat and features some of Miami's best up-and-coming comics!! These cats are seriously funny so come on out if you need a laugh. *WEDNESDAY*
It's the second installment of ORIGAMI NIGHT with your instructor (and Sweat's co-founder-at-large) SARA!! She's a paper-folding whiz and for this Holiday edition, we'll be learning little boxes, stars and other gift-y type items. There's a $5 materials fee and it starts at 8pm. The last one was great so check this out!! No reservations necessary.

*THURSDAY*
We've got a fuzzy, noisy in-store at Sweat with a live performance by CHEAP TIME (Nashville) and Miami's own JACUZZI BOYS and ELECTRIC BUNNIES!! It'll be over by midnight because afterward is JOSE EL REY'S BIRTHDAY PARTY AT (((SHAKE)))!! We'll have extra Miami Bass in the place, classic video games, quart-chugging contests y mas...

*FRIDAY*
This Friday at The Vagabond, we've got 2 rad national acts - RAFTER out of San Diego and the uber-cute CARS CAN BE BLUE from Athens, Georgia!! Saturday at Sweat we've got another fantastic in-store with live performances by locals MOD L'ONE, DINO FELIPE and RIMSKY!! All 3 are making sweet tunes in Miami's music scene and are worth checking out if you haven't seen them yet. Starts at 9pm.

BIRTHAYS + BIKES!!

What an awesome week - Halloween at Vagabond was madness (see the Vagabond myspace and the New Times for pics), AND America elected Barack Obama as its 44th President!! After reading his detailed plan to help small businesses like us we can only say "Hell yes."

Friday at The Vagabond we not only welcome special guest DJs FRANKI CHAN and TOXIC AVENGER, but we're also celebrating JSIN AND MIKE DEUCE'S BIRTHDAYS!! Come out and give these guys a pat on the back and some birthday spankings. Next Friday, we've got 2 awesome bands from out of town!!

This show of shows features Miami luminaries like RACHEL GOODRICH, THE JEANMARIE, JESSE JACKSON, PRETTY PLEASE, THIS HEART ELECTRIC, DOWN HOME SOUTHERNAIRES, SIRENSANDSEALIONS, MATILDA LIGHTS, GORRIO & FRIENDS, EX-NORWEIGAN, and HUMBERT!!!! If you've been curious about local music then this is night to see what's up. The mere $7 cover also gets you a free CD!!

Sunday brings a super-awesome free community event brought to us by the city called BIKE MIAMI!! The city is going to shut down big stretches of Flagler St. and South Miami Avenue to car traffic so that Miamians can bike, run, walk, skate, and dance freely in the streets!! DJ's DOORMOUSE (Chocolate Sundays) and MIKE DEUCE (Money Shot) bring the hip hop and Miami classics to the Bar Room. We also have Nintendo battles going all night projected over the dance floor. This week test your skills at TETRIS!!

Out on the patio, local legend DJ ALEX CASO is your soul provider with his mix of funk, R&B, blues, and other remnants of a musical time gone but not forgotten. Come hungry for our Back Yard BBQ!! We're keeping it simple tonight with hot dogs and hamburgers for all your munchie needs.

At Midnight we hold the now legendary Colt 45 Chug Contest!! Can you, or anyone, beat the reigning 3 week monster James Melgar?!
